Congratulations on choosing to study at the University of Pretoria! Here are the steps you need to take to register and attend orientation.

To get you started, here is a handy graphic summary of the most important next steps, which all admitted and conditionally admitted students should have received via email.

Student Contract

• Complete your student contract: Access your UP student portal at https://www1.up.ac.za and complete your student contract. Click on the "Admissions" tile to find the contract.
• Print and sign: After completing the contract online, print it and sign it.
• Submit the contract: You can submit your signed contract in one of the following ways:
• Mail or courier: Send the contract to Private Bag X20, Hatfield, 0028. The physical address is c/o Lynnwood and Roper Roads.
• Drop-off bins: Deposit the contract in the designated drop-off bins located at the University Road, Lynnwood Road, and Prospect Street entrances at the Hatfield Campus.
• Contract verification: You will not be able to register until your contract has been verified. Check for a contract hold under the "Tasks" tile. If there's no hold, your contract has been verified.

Fees

• Initial payment: Pay your initial fee of R10 000. NSFAS students are exempt from this fee. For all other funding sources, students can send a letter confirming their 2025 funding to [email protected]  
• Residence fee: If you have been placed in an official UP residence, you must also pay an additional R5 700 as soon as possible.
• Banking details: You can find UP banking details at: https://www.up.ac.za/student-fees/article/2735940/up-bank-details.
• Bursary students: Students studying with a bursary should visit https://www.up.ac.za/student-fees/article/2735990/fees-paid-by-bursars for specific information regarding fee payments.

Registration

• Check your admission status: Check your updated admission status on the UP student portal from 15 January 2025. If you have been admitted, please click on CONFIRM for the plan you wish to register for by 16 January 2025.
• Register online: Online registration opens on 19 January 2025.
• Assisted registration: If you require assistance, you can register in person at the Hillcrest Campus from 21 January 2025.
• Registration requirements: You must have a valid and verified student contract, and have paid the initial fee (and the residence fee, if applicable) to register.

Orientation

• Pre-orientation: Complete the online pre-orientation starting 21 January 2025. More information and updates on pre-orientation are available at https://www.up.ac.za/orientation/.
• UP access card: Once registered, collect your student access card in person at the Hillcrest Campus 24 hours after registration. This card is required to enter the campus.
• Welcome Day: Attend Welcome Day for new first-year students and parents on 1 February 2025.
• First-year orientation: Attend first-year orientation from 3-7 February 2025 to receive important information about module choices, credits, and prerequisites.

Classes

• Classes: Classes start on 10 February 2025.
• Academic calendar: Access the full academic calendar at https://linus.up.ac.za/calendars/.
