Celebrate Heritage Month and UP’s heritage by being part of the UP Archives PDBY Finders Winners Competition!

To celebrate the history and heritage of the University of Pretoria (UP), the UP Archives and PDBY have launched an exciting competition to mark Heritage Month – the UP Archives PDBY Finders Winners Competition, which takes the form of a treasure hunt and includes a range of amazing prizes, from a first prize of R10 000 to coffee and printing vouchers and lots more.

Treasure hunters simply need to find the answers to three sets of clues, unlocking various aspects of UP’s heritage, to stand a chance to take home these prizes. As the institution’s memory bank, the UP Archives invite you to uncover the stories of remarkable women at UP, delve into the interesting tapestry of UP traditions and understand the rich architectural heritage on UP’s campuses. These mysteries can be unlocked in news reports from the past, found in the UP Archives “Day in the Life” exhibition and in clues found in UP’s student newspaper, the PDBY.

Two of the sets of questions have already been released, so there is no time to wait to join the hunt! These two sets can be found in the 14 August 2023 and 28 August 2023 editions of PDBY, with the third to follow in the 2 October 2023 edition. Answers and clues can be explored online, on the UP Archives web pages, and in person on the noticeboards next to the Humanities Building and opposite the graffiti wall on Hatfield campus. Be sure to ] look closely at articles on UP’s history found in the aforementioned editions of PDBY.
