The UP-Tuks Beach Volleyball team will be looking to perform better at this year's Varsity Beach Volleyball tournament, which will take place at the University of the Western Cape's sports stadium between 4 and 5 May. They lost in the 2015 final to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and club captain Margrit Springer is eager to return from her third tournament with the trophy in hand.
The final-year MBChB (Medicine) student said that the only change to their preparation is that they have a new coach, but their desire to win is stronger than ever. 'Kirsten Pococks is the most experienced coach we have ever had. She has played volleyball across both formats at the highest level and we are extremely grateful for all the knowledge she has passed down to us,' said Springer. 'Apart from our new coach, everything is pretty much the same. We have trained really hard and we have every intention of winning the title.'
Tuks will face the Vaal University of Technology, Kovsies (the University of the Free State) and the University of Limpopo in Round One on 4 May, and will take on defending champions UWC and the University of Cape Town in Round Two on 5 May.
All matches will be televised live on SuperSport Select and SuperSport 5. All fixtures can be viewed here: http://varsitysportssa.com/fixtures/beachvolleyball-fixtures-results/
