The management of the University of Pretoria wish to remind all stakeholders that the University’s institutional governance processes must be respected regardless of different views that individuals and groups may hold on language, political and any other issues.  

The University management is deeply concerned that political parties are using the current situation as an opportunity to play out their political differences on our campuses. This is causing serious disruptions which we cannot tolerate.

The University is taking very firm action in this regard. We have an interdict in place that precludes violence of any sort on our campuses, and we will be enforcing it strictly, with the assistance of the South African Police Services. We do not condone violence, intimidation, inciting hatred or hate speech by any party to anyone.

We have also analysed in detail the disruptions that took place yesterday (Monday, 22 February 2016) and we will be implementing University disciplinary processes, as well as reporting all identified cases of violent and unlawful behaviour to the police for possible prosecution.
