Student life at UP: opportunities for growth, leadership and community

Posted on December 13, 2024

At the University of Pretoria, student life isn’t just about academics – it’s about enabling students to discover who they are. Whether it’s through leading in student governance, building a vibrant social network in residences, or fostering professional connections through faculty houses, the UP experience is designed to offer students opportunities to thrive in every aspect of their lives.

Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles through various governance structures. Elected student representatives serve in the Student Representative Council (SRC), where they advocate for their peers, shape campus policies and address student needs.

Residence life is another cornerstone of the UP experience, providing a vibrant community for students who live on campus, and fostering a sense of belonging and participation in social, cultural and sporting activities.

For those living off-campus, day houses offer a way to engage in residence-style activities and maintain a strong connection to campus life. Faculty houses play a crucial role in linking students with their academic faculties, facilitating communication between students and staff, and offering opportunities for professional growth through industry visits, networking events, and academic support. In addition, students can join key committees that organise sports, cultural, and outreach events, ensuring that every student has the chance to engage in a holistic and enriching university experience.

Here are testimonial videos about student life at UP, highlighting the diverse opportunities available:
