In recognition of a financial contribution made by African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) to the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT), the Faculty has decided to name one of the new venues in the newly established Department of Mining Engineering the African Rainbow Minerals Mining Exhibition Centre.
The venue, an exhibition centre in the Faculty, was recently unveiled during a ceremony.
The naming of the exhibition centre was the result of a financial contribution of R5 million by ARM to the Department at the beginning of 2014. This contribution has made possible the appointment of 11 and 10 contracted-in staff member appointments in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
According to Mr Wolter de Graaf of the Department, the long-term vision of the newly created exhibition centre is to provide students and prospective students with a visual presentation of mining engineering, inclusive of 3D models, touch screens and computer applications.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, wife of Mr Patrice Motsepe who is the founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals. Other attendees included students in Mining Engineering and Faculty staff.
