Pavetesting® Ltd, United Kingdom (UK), has donated equipment, namely the Pave®CFT and Pave®PROF, to the University of Pretoria (UP). The official handover took place on 11 August 2015 at UP.

Mr Barry Goff, Managing Director of PaveTesting Ltd said of the donation that they ‘are proud to be able to donate our equipment to the University of Pretoria. This continues our company ethos of supporting education in the countries that we operate in, and we are sure that this donation will assist the University in producing the engineers of the future.’

Prof Steyn said that the University gratefully accepts and appreciates the donation, since it generates opportunities in terms of hands-on training and research for under- and postgraduate students in pavement engineering. Access to world-class equipment enables students to conduct research at various levels, and this donation will enable UP to remain at the cutting edge of pavement research.

The Department of Civil Engineering is currently planning research programmes where this equipment will be fully utilised, and that will address some of the current issues in southern African pavement and road engineering, including the effects of road condition on the safe and economical transportation of freight within the region.
