New Tugs Rag Queen Crowned

Posted on January 29, 2010

The crowning of this year’s Tuks Rag Queen is part of an annual Rag Week festivities at the University of Pretoria. The new Rag Queen and her princesses will be paraded on the first float during the Rag’s Procession on Saturday 30 January 2010.

According to Thabi Masela, deputy chairperson of the Rag Committee, the Rag Debutante Crowning programme is an initiative started by Tuks Rag to encourage more student involvement in local charity organizations.

“The programme is a valuable source of revenue for Tuks Rag. The money which is raised by these debutants is paid out towards the charities which the Tuks Rag supports,” said Masela.

There has been a considerable contribution made over the previous years to worthy causes such as the poly clinic, soup kitchens for the elderly, clothes for homeless and needy children. More than R 4 million was donated to charity organizations in the past two years, and various community projects have also been helped to sustain themselves.
