The Second Annual Public Lecture of the Community of Mandela-Rhodes Scholars, hosted at the University of Pretoria

On 30 September 2010 the CMRS will be hosting a public lecture with the theme “Reconciliation in reality: In light of living in Africa”. The speaker will be Prof Jakes Gerwel (BA, BA Hons, LicGermPhil, DLitt et Phil), Chancellor of Rhodes University, Distinguished Professor in Humanities at the University of the Western Cape and Honorary Professor in the Humanities at the University of Pretoria. He chairs the Boards of Trustees of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Mandela-Rhodes Foundation, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and is Vice Chairman of the Peace Parks Foundation, to name but a few of his achievements.

The Public Lecture promises to be thought-provoking, challenging and relevant. Those attending the lecture will have an opportunity to meet some of the Mandela-Rhodes Scholars, get in touch with current discourses on reconciliation and to play a part in a broader process of reconciliation in the African context. The media will be present and those attending will have an opportunity to learn more about the Mandela-Rhodes Scholarships and the Community of Mandela-Rhodes Scholars.
