The shared vision of the parties is amongst others to be prepared for a future National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme in South Africa by addressing the issues that are to the benefit of both Netcare and the University of Pretoria. The main objectives is to create a public private partnership between the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Netcare hospitals, and also to create the opportunity for Netcare hospitals to become accredited for specialist training as part of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey welcomed the new public private partnership of the two institutions which is pivotal in preparing for the envisaged NHI scheme in South Africa.
The Director of Strategy and Health Policy at Netcare Hospitals, Melanie Da Costa, is also pleased with commitment of the two institutions. “As South Africa strives for significant improvement in national health outcomes, Netcare embraces this progressive partnership with the University of Pretoria to further enhance skills of medical doctors towards the advancement of national health objectives”, said Da Costa.
