In the women's division team South Africa put up a great fight against Chile. Rose van der Meer played Francisca Mardones and Kgothatso Montjane faced Marie Antonieta Ortiz. Van der Meer pulled out all the stops but Mardones prevailed 6-3 6-1. Montjane remained focused after she lost a tight first set 6-7. In the second, Montjane bounced back taking the set 6-3 and won the third set with ease 6-0. The players came face to face in the doubles match against Mardones and Oritz with results still pending.
In a commanding position against Zimbabwe Gift Lekganyane played Sheppered Banda winning in three sets, 4-6 6-3 6-0. Team mate Donald Ramphadi stamped his authority against Brian Mafuvise on the match taking it 6-0 6-2. The doubles saw the Zimbabweans faced the same fate with Ramphadi and team mate Mabel Mankgele winning 6-3 7-5. The win secures them seventh place in the World Team Cup, 2011.

They have fared well to reach the semifinals and this is a first for our men. We are extremely proud of Sydwell and Evans, and our entire team. It’s not only about celebrating the game but supporting their entire nation in pursuit of victory."
