Taekwondo legend visits TuksSport

Kook Hyun Jeong, a professor at the Korea National Sport University, is the proud holder of a Guinness Record as a four time World Champion. He won this prestigious title in 1982 in Guayaquil (under 73 kg), 1983 in Copenhagen (under 73 kg), 1984 in Seoul (under 76 kg) and 1987 in Barcelona (under 76 kg).

He also has an Olympic title (1988) and two Asian Championship titles (1984 and 1988).

Prof Jeong, who has a doctorate in physical education and is the current vice-chairman of the Korean Taekwondo Federation, said his visit to the University of Pretoria is aimed at making the sport better known and understood in a market with huge potential.

He and his delegation will return to Korea on 13 May.

Mr Van der Walt said Prof Jeong and his delegation's visit will see to a celebration of human movement.

"In the modern world, where specialization, especially in sport, comes at an early age, we have lost the educational values of teaching our children the full spectrum of experiencing human movement. My colleague (Dr Mulaudzi) and I, who have had the benefit of visiting your country, is immensely impressed with Korea's continued system of Physical Education from pirmary school to university level. We hope that your visit will contribute to the re-establishment of Physical Education in our schools," added the TuksSport Director.
