TuksRugby: Historic win in Bloemfontein psychological boost for North/South battle

Posted on February 19, 2013

Although UP-Tuks came short of scoring a bonus-point try in their win against the pride of the University of the Free State, this effort was still good enough to move up to second place on the log. UP-Tuks and UJ both have 10 points on the log, but UP-Tuks's point difference is better (16–12).

‘The victory against Shimlas was very important for our confidence and momentum. I am the first to admit that there is still much room for improvement, but we've accomplished something today that no other other Tukkie team has succeeded in before. This is an outstanding achievement – one that we can build on for the remainder of the season,’ said UP-Tuks head coach Nollis Marais.

He said it was encouraging that UP-Tuks played better at each game.

‘Against Pukke we were asleep in the first half, but fought back well in the last 40 minutes. Against UCT we again did not play to our full potential, but still improved enough in certain areas to win. And today against Shimlas we were very clinical at times. I will be looking for more of this good stuff on Monday against Maties. To beat them, we will have to be more careful on infringing at the breakdowns and also more focused and goal driven in everything we do,’ said Marais.

UP-Tuks’s tries were scored by Player that Rocks, Jean Cook (2) and Clayton Blommetjies. Tian Schoeman succeeded with two conversions and a penalty.
