Like Show Business

Posted on July 05, 2010

“Like Show Business” was devised by Michelle Ayden for the Student Festival and was performed by second and third year drama students. The play took a critical and tongue-in-the-cheek look at the realities of life in show business. Tickets for the first performance were sold out before the show opened. The festival newspaper, Cue, commented on the strength of performances by the student-actors and described the show as "on the cutting edge of new theatre" and as having "attained an extraordinary level of comic slickness and sophistication".

“One-Way”, choreographed for the Fringe Festival by Nicola Haskins, was described in the Cue as presenting a "breathtaking performance" featuring "masterful choreography"; it made the festival’s Top 50 on the day after opening. Postgraduate students performed in the event. The show explores issues of alienation and identity in a society dominated by repressive values. The show is a historical event, as it is the first ever collaboration between UP Drama and TUT Dance and Musical Theatre.
