Abdi Samatar is Professor of Geography and Global Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is a former Fulbright Scholar and currently the vice-president of the African Studies Association of North America. Prof Samatar is the author of three books and more than 50 journal articles. His book, An African Miracle, was a finalist for the Melville J Herskovits Award of the African Studies Association. He is currently working on a book on African democracy and leadership.
