Miss SA did welfare work

Posted on December 05, 2012

The current Miss SA, Melinda Bam, recently visited the Mohau Childrens’ home at Kalafong hospital. She handed over a cheque of R200 000 on behalf of the Business for Empowerment Trust (BET). This much-needed donation will enable the staff at the Centre to continue their good work!

The Mohau Centre provides care and support to orphans and abandoned children. This is done through temporary and permanent residential care and community based social services. It accommodates 45 children in two facilities. The Centre obtains its funds from quarterly subsidies from the Department of Social Welfare and the budgetary shortfall is made up through private funding in the form of cash and in-kind donations.

The Business for Empowerment Trust is a public benefit organization that has adopted the Mohau Centre as a beneficiary. Melinda Bam graced the children and the staff with her presence and shared her spirit with all. This was not a passive donation, but an involved personal gesture of good faith and uBuntu.

The Paediatric Department at Kalafong hospital has a long history of close cooperation with the Mohau Centre.
