TuksLaw seizes double gold in National Moot Court Competition

The English TuksLaw team comprising Tatenda Madzingira and Sanan Mirzoyev, as well as the Afrikaans TuksLaw team of Daniel du Plessis and Carike Jacobs triumphed over 14 other teams from universities in South Africa and a team from Charlotte School of Law in the USA.  TuksLaw mooters Sanan Mirzoyev and Daniel du Plessis also scooped up the awards for Best Individual Oralists in the English and Afrikaans Divisions respectively, and the team of Daniel du Plessis and Carike Jacobs was ranked best overall.

Daniel and Sanan also walked away with the laurels for Best Oralists in the respective language divisions.


Nyambeni Davhana and Mary-Anne Getliffe and Andre van Wyk and Michelle van der Merwe were the members of the other two teams.  The English teams were coached by penultimate year LLB student, Jason Gouveia and co-coach, Marlene Murphy, a final year BA Law student.  The Afrikaans teams were coached by penultimate year LLB student, Petronell Kruger and co-coach Rochelle van Staden, a second year BCom Law student.

 

Elated head coach Jason Gouveia said that it was very rewarding to witness the culmination of all the blood, sweat, tears and hours of training over the past few months.  Dean André Borraine said that the Faculty is justifiably very proud of these students and expressed the Facultys gratitude towards the law firm Norton Rose Inc for sponsoring the TuksLaw participants over the past two years. The mooters obtained valuable skills, which will no doubt benefit their legal careers.
