Programinligting

The maximum period for completion of the master's degree is two years. Subject to the stipulations of the General Regulations, the Chairperson of the School in question may, in consultation with the head of department, approve a fixed limited extension of the period on the grounds of extraordinary circumstances.

Admission requirements

  1. Relevant honours degree or relevant four-year bachelor’s degree or relevant bachelor’s degree with applicable practical (work) experience

Note: Additional work/modules may be required in order to reach the desired level of competency.

Additional requirements

TNM 700 or TNM 802 as well as MBS 800 or equivalent status must be achieved before completion of the MSc degree. If pharmacology status cannot be shown before starting the degree, the modules (FAR 381, 382) Pharmacology 381, 382 must be completed at the Department of Pharmacology before the degree can be conferred.

Examinations and pass requirements

If advised by an examiner(s), an oral examination that will deal with the research project and those subdivisions of the field of study on which the dissertation is based, will need to be passed.

Research information
A complete research protocol regarding the proposed dissertation (as well as the curriculum vitae of the candidate) must be approved by the Postgraduate Committee of the School in question and the Research Ethics Committee before the study may commence. The dissertation must deal with a pharmacology related problem from any field in Health Sciences and must satisfy the supervisor and the examiners that it represents advanced supervised research and/or creative work in the field of the Health Sciences. It must give an overview of the topic covered and contain a description of the experiments done by the student, record of observations made and data interpretation as well as a discussion of the conclusions reached.

Pass with distinction

The degree is conferred with distinction on a student who has obtained an average of at least 75% on the examination of the dissertation.
