The BCom – Extended Programme has lower entrance requirements than other three-year BCom programmes and is designed to accommodate students who are academically less prepared, but who are willing to work hard to correct chinks in their academic armour, thus earning success and eventually a degree.
The Four-Year Extended Programme comprises two distinct phases:
Phase 1: First year (Mamelodi Campus)
Phase 2: Second to fourth years (Hatfield Campus)
Many students who embark on the BCom Extended Programme have excelled in their academic programmes as they successfully bridged the gap between school and university at the Mamelodi Campus.
The first year of study is offered at the Mamelodi Campus. This is the ideal starting point for students who are interested in studying towards a BCom degree in management and financial sciences. During October of their first year of study, students have to apply to be transferred to the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences on the Hatfield Campus. Placement in BCom (Accounting Sciences) and BCom (Investment Management) cannot be guaranteed. All first-year modules must be passed before a student can be transferred to any of the BCom programmes.
This programme caters for students whose National Senior Certificate (NSC) results do not comply with the minimum admission requirements for their degree of first choice or are uncertain about what to study when enrolling at UP.
Career opportunities are dependent on the BCom degree that a student continues with once they complete their first year at the UP Mamelodi Campus
For more information, please consult the Faculty webpage.
Career opportunities depend on the programme chosen by students in their second year of study.
