It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ms Thanyani Mahanya on Friday, 9 May 2025. Ms Mahanya dedicated 15 years of distinguished service to the University of Pretoria.

Her career at UP spanned several key roles: as an administrator in the Deanery of the Faculty of Humanities, senior administrator in senior management, and for the past seven years, as administrator to the Deputy Dean: Research and Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Theology and Religion. She also supported the Departments of Old Testament and Hebrew Scriptures, and New Testament and Related Literature. Prior to joining UP, Ms Mahanya served for several years at the Vaal University of Technology.

Ms Mahanya was known for her warmth, kindness, and professionalism. She was a mentor to many and a respected and cherished member of the faculty community. Her presence and contributions will be deeply missed.

The University of Pretoria will hold a memorial service to honour the life and legacy of Mrs Thanyani Mahanya.
