Hello UP students!
Here’s everything you need to know to stay prepared and succeed during UP Test Week. Read carefully to ensure you're prepared.
Test Rules (sit-down & online)
- The same rules apply to both sit-down and online tests. Any exceptions will be clearly communicated by your faculty.

Please note:
- Departmental extra-time venues not listed above remain unchanged and will be used as previously communicated.
- If an overflow of students occurs, invigilators will direct you to the nearest available venue in the same building.
Getting to your test
- Sit-down tests: Arrive at the test venue at least 30 minutes before the start time.
- Online tests: Ensure you are in a quiet space, and log in at least 10 minutes before your test begins.
- Late arrivals:
- If you arrive less than 30 minutes late, you may still write your test, but no extra time will be granted.
- If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, you will not be allowed to write.
- Campus access: Bring your student card to enter the campus and test venue. (No card, no entry).
- Your student card or ID will be scanned at the venue to mark your attendance.
- Wait for invigilators’ instructions before starting your test.
Bus services:
- Updated bus schedules will be available on ClickUP.
- Buses operate between:
- Hatfield, Groenkloof, and Prinshof campuses.
- Sunnyside and Arcadia, to Hatfield (no direct bus to Groenkloof, transfer at Hatfield)
- Plan ahead to avoid missing your test due to transport delays.
What to bring (and NOT bring):
- No bag check-in available – Keep your bag under your desk/table.
- Only bring stationery in transparent bags (bring your own).
- Cell phones, electronics, and smart wearables must be switched off and placed in a transparent plastic bag under your chair.
- The University is not responsible for lost or damaged belongings.
Loadshedding and power interruptions:
- During sit-down tests: Follow the instructions from invigilators.
- During online tests:
- If load-shedding interrupts your test, obtain an affidavit from the police and proof from Eskom/your municipality.
- Submit these documents to Faculty Administration and/or Academic Department.
Missed a test?
- If you missed a test due to illness or an emergency, contact your Faculty Administration, lecturer and/or Academic Department immediately for guidance on the next steps.
