Reaffirming Our Commitment to Campus Safety, Diversity and Inclusivity

Posted on October 16, 2024

We are aware of the complaints received regarding the guest lecture delivered by the leader of a political party, hosted by the EFF UP student society on our campus last Friday. We are currently investigating the matter to ensure that all university policies and rules were adhered to during the event.

The University of Pretoria respects the constitutionally protected right to freedom of speech; however, we condemn any form of incitement to violence, discrimination, or racism on our campuses. Such behaviour is in direct conflict with the values of our university, which strives to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students, staff, and visitors.

We want to reassure our community that we will not hesitate to act against any individual or group found to be in violation of our policies. We remain committed to upholding a campus culture rooted in respect, diversity, and equality, and we will continue to protect these principles in every aspect of university life.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to foster a positive and welcoming campus environment.
