This year, the UP Museums is recognising and celebrating 30 years of South African democracy, and we invite you to share what ‘Democracy’ means to you.

By sharing, you could WIN one of five gift hampers from the UP Museums.

Come to the Old Arts Building during Heritage Month throughout September, view the inspiring artworks in our To Not Forget, 1994-2024 exhibition, and walk through our exciting collaboration with the Department of Architecture’s Proto Building and Raw Modular team timber installation on the historic staircase.

Walk back in time up the 30 historical slate stairs in the Old Arts Building, reflecting upon each step as you traverse our 30 years of democracy. Choose one timber panel that speaks to you personally, take a photo or a creative selfie, and send a brief description of your experience using this link. You are also welcome to choose any artwork in the Old Arts Building to photograph, link your views to the ‘30 Years of Democracy’ theme and share.

Entries close at 16:00 on Friday, 4 October 2024, and winners will be announced on Monday, 7 October 2024. The competition is open to all UP students and staff members.
