UP Colour Fun Run a resounding success

Posted on July 05, 2024

The University of Pretoria’s (UP) first TuksSport Colour Fun Run has wrapped up, leaving participants and organisers alike awash with smiles. Having anticipated 150 to 200 runners, the surge in registrations was a welcome surprise for the organisers and made for an event filled with excitement and community spirit.

Participants in the 5km adult course and 1km children’s run (for those under 12) were treated to a kaleidoscope of colour as they crossed the finish line through clouds of colourful, eco-friendly powders.

“The combination of different colours at the closing looked amazing – it was truly a marvel!” said Phina Sokho, chair of Internal events at TuksSport. “The kids were incredibly competitive, even though this wasn’t meant to be a race. Their performance in the 1km run was admirable.”

There was a festive atmosphere during the event, at which there were food stalls, merchandise booths and music. Top performers were rewarded with gym memberships ranging from two weeks to three months. All participants received medals, and prizes were awarded to the best-dressed runners.

As participants compared their new multi-hued appearances at the finish line, the success of the run was evident. Given the overwhelmingly positive response, TuksSport has already confirmed plans for next year’s event. When asked what participants can look forward to next year, the team hinted at the possibility of new colour options, as this year’s palette was chosen to align with TuksSport colours.

The inaugural run exceeded expectations, proving that sometimes, the most memorable athletic events are the ones where crossing the finish line is just the beginning of the celebration. So lace up your running shoes and keep an eye out for next year’s invitation to the TuksSport Colour Fun Run.
