Invitation to Participate in U.S. Embassy Black History Month essay competition for first years

In honour of Black History Month and the 30th anniversary of South African democracy, the U.S. Embassy in South Africa is thrilled to announce the commencement of the "I HAVE A DREAM - WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE" essay competition, specifically designed for South African youth aged 16-20.

We extend this invitation to you, as we believe this opportunity holds great potential for your first-year students. We kindly request that you consider sharing the contest details with your first-year students at your discretion and assist in spreading the word.

Key details about the competition:

Contest theme: "I HAVE A DREAM - WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE"

Eligibility: South African youth aged 16-20

Submission requirements:

  • Essay of 400 words or less outlining their dreams and vision for a positive future in South Africa
  • Video of the participant reading the essay
  • Prizes: MacBook computer for 1st place, iPad for 2nd place, iPad Mini for 3rd place, along with additional prizes

Submission deadline: February 29, 2024
