The University of Pretoria’s (UP) RE.SEARCH magazine recently won gold (for digital magazines), silver (for digital design) and bronze (for printed magazine) at the 2023 Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education Excellence Awards, which featured 255 entries from 17 institutions across the country.

In this latest edition, all our faculties are represented under the theme ‘Just Transitions’, which is generally characterised by ideas of sustainability and the greening of the economy, and supported by the ideas of resistance, rethinking and restructuring society for a better and more equitable future.

These transitions have been highlighted across a range of research projects, which highlight how we are rethinking traditional policies and approaches to complex issues facing society. As you explore this edition, you will learn more about how these often-intractable issues are not fixed with a one-size-fits-all approach, but rather need multi-and transdisciplinary collaborations.

By championing social justice causes and contributing to amplifying justice, we are able to set off on a path towards rectifying and restoring the rights of people and society. We hope that you enjoy reading this edition and gain a better understanding of the practical impact of our research in contributing towards solving some of the most complex issues of our age.
