Flying with Pride: The story of the South African flag by Denis Beckett

The South African national flag first fluttered high above a nation on the 27th of April, 1994. Not as a symbol of a political party, nor government but as a possession of a people, the one thing that is literally and figuratively above all else, our flag. ‘Flying with Pride’ is a celebration of how, since that day, this bright coloured cloth has been woven into the very fabric of South African society. It has turned into butterflies and cricket bats, into bow ties and top hats, into trees and trains and into often used combination of colours recognised instantly by South Africans anywhere in the world.
