Merensky 2 Library Construction Project

Posted on August 02, 2023

Kindly note that the Merensky 2 Library is currently undergoing a Fire Rational upgrade to ensure compliance with the latest Health and Safety Fire Regulations. While this upgrade is essential, we understand that it may cause inconvenience during the construction period.

Despite the ongoing construction, we want to assure you that the Merensky 2 Library will remain open. The Study Centre, which operates 24 hours, will be fully accessible. However, we anticipate some disruptions and inconveniences in certain areas:

  1. Access to Library Sections: Please be aware that access to various sections of the library, particularly those housing print material on different levels, may be challenging.
  2. Study Spaces and Computers: The number of available study spaces and computers has been affected by the construction, and some areas may not be conducive to quiet study due to noise.
  3. Makerspace and Short Loan (Reserved) Collections: The Makerspace and Short Loan (Reserved) Collections will also be impacted, and their availability might be limited.

To mitigate the inconvenience, we encourage both staff and students to explore alternative spaces and libraries on campus whenever possible. Additionally, take advantage of our online and virtual services, including our click and collect service for physical resources. Our Learning Centre and Information Specialists are also available to assist you.

For a comprehensive list of available virtual services and how to access them, we have provided detailed information for your convenience on our website.

Important Reminders:

  • Please follow the signage directions within the library, as certain services may have been temporarily relocated.
  • Your safety is our priority; we kindly request everyone to adhere to the Health and Safety regulations displayed throughout the building.

It is estimated that construction will be completed by the end of October 2023.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused during this upgrade process. We firmly believe that the end result will be a safer and more compliant environment for our valued staff and students.

Please contact Mr Modisa Khosie on [email protected] for enquiries.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
