Come through for UP-Topia activation

Posted on July 19, 2023

Join us for the first ever UP-Topia activation to be hosted on all five University of Pretoria campuses between the last week of July and the first week of August and discover how we make today matter by Giving THE UP WAY.

While students were recharging for the second semester of the academic year, staff at the University of Pretoria (UP) were working tirelessly to put together a MUST ATTEND, first ever, UP-Topia activation!

We encourage all to join this informative and fun filled event to discover more about the University of Pretoria’s brand and all related services to students, packaged as a unique edutainment experience. Discover a world of opportunities, resources, and advantages embedded within the UP brand, and specifically tailored to unlock students' potential through THE UP WAY. There will be a UP-Topia Bike Challenge 202where individuals or teams can compete against each other for a chance to win amazing prizes.

“Colleagues from various professional services departments that provide student support will exhibit.  We will take you on a journey of what our brand and its tagline Make today matter stands for and how we strive to make a difference every day.  We will also introduce you to our ethos as the University of Pretoria which we refer to as THE UP WAY. The main purpose of THE UP WAY campaign is to reach out to our students through UP Cares and FLY@UP pillars throughout the year to package our academic, physical and psycho-social support to students,” said Sithembinkosi Tlale, the UP Deputy Director for Marketing and Communication in the Department of Institutional Advancement.

“At the centre of UP-Topia is our Giving Matters campaign”, she continued.  “The aim of this campaign is to encourage everybody to donate and make an impact on the lives of students in need of financial support so that they can successfully finish their studies to make a positive impact on the larger community. Through UP-Topia we want to reach students and staff to Make today matter by Giving THE UP WAY. No amount is too small and if you keep in mind that R50 a day can feed a student, even the smaller amounts all add up to make a difference.”

The Giving Matters campaign aims to raise R100 million by 2024 to support “missing middle” students – who do not qualify for NSFAS but are also unable to qualify for a bank loan to fund their studies. The UP-Topia activations will kick off the official UP Giving Day at the Hatfield campus on Monday, 24 July 2023 when students return for the second semester.
