Announcement regarding the UP Vice-Chancellor and Principal

Posted on June 13, 2023

Dear members of the UP Community,

I am writing to inform you that the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Tawana Kupe, has resigned from his position with effect from 31 July 2023. The University has accepted his decision to resign. His term was scheduled to conclude in January 2024.

While the process to find his successor will begin immediately, appropriate interim arrangements that will help facilitate the smooth functioning of the institution will be put in place. I am confident that these interim arrangements, coupled with the expertise and dedication of the UP staff, will enable us to continue operating at the highest level.

We all remain committed to upholding the University's mission, values, and long-term objectives, and will work tirelessly to maintain our momentum. On behalf of the Council, I would like to express my gratitude to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor and Principal for his contributions to UP during his tenure.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this period of change.

Your sincerely,

Kuseni Dlamini

Chairperson of the University of Pretoria Council
