Since 2020, the University of Pretoria has been offering fully online distance education programmes, in the form of UPOnline programmes. The UPOnline programmes are offered by the Directorate for Comprehensive Online Education Services (COES) in collaboration with the relevant academic Faculties. Some of these programmes are also offered in partnership with Higher Ed Partners South Africa (HEPSA).

In February 2023, Council approved the following arrangements regarding rebates for UP staff members who choose to further their studies via UPOnline programmes. With immediate effect, a staff rebate of

1.     50% of the tuition fees for all UPOnline programmes offered in partnership with HEPSA will be given, proportional to the staff member’s hours of appointment.

2.     100% of the tuition fees for all UPOnline programmes offered by UP alone will be given, proportional to the staff member’s hours of appointment.

Furthermore, all staff members who, since 2020, paid for their own studies in the following two UPOnline programmes (offered in partnership with HEPSA), will be reimbursed according to the principle mentioned above:

• PGDip in Public Health (Faculty of Health Sciences)
• PGDip in Public Management (Faculty of Management Sciences).
