The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

From Human Wrongs to Human Rights, edited by C Heyns, A Manase and F Viljoen

This book provides a record of the first Southern Africa Moot Court Competition, held in Zimbabwe, from 11-13 September 1992. This event was jointly organised by the Centre for Human Rights, based at the University of Pretoria, the Community Law Centre at the University of the Western Cape and the Law Faculty of the University of Zimbabwe.

The theme of the competition largely expressed its ideals, namely ‘Southern Africa: From human wrongs to human rights’. As apartheid was coming to an end in South Africa, and multiparty democracy was starting to take root in the region, new opportunities for co-operation were created, especially in the area of human rights.
