Your university years are the start of one of the most important chapters in your life – and the University of Pretoria (UP) is looking forward to celebrating the beginning of that journey with you!

Welcome Day 2023, on Saturday 11 February 2023, is when we formally welcome our first-year students, and their parents/ guardians, into our UP family and community.

To make the day as fun, informative, and festive as possible, here is a summary of all the most important information you need. Have a good read, and share it with your parents/ guardians, so we can all focus on the business of welcoming you in grand style!

• This is a hybrid (online and in-person) event – which means everyone invited was given the option of attending in-person, or joining in the festivities online.
• A personalised invitation is sent to students who complete their registration on or by Friday 3 February 2023. The invitation is sent to the email address you provided upon registration.
• There has been such an enthusiastic response that in-person attendance is already fully booked. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the experience with us – if you weren’t able to secure in-person attendance, please RSVP to attend the online event.  
• Those who’ve been able to RSVP successfully will receive a confirmation letter via email by Wednesday 8 February 2023.
• Students attending in-person will receive a confirmation letter (by 8 February) which you must present (in print or on your mobile device) in order to gain access.
• Students attending online will receive a confirmation email (by 8 February) which will include the link you’ll need to access the live-streamed event. To register for the online event click  here Welcome Day virtual event
• Attending Welcome Day (whether in-person or virtually) will also give you the opportunity to win one of five UP hampers valued at R1 000 each.  Please read the terms and conditions at the bottom of your invitation for details on how to enter.  Please register your attendance to qualify.

During the official proceedings, starting at 10am, you will be introduced to UP’s senior leadership team, and Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Tawana Kupe will welcome you and your loved ones to the UP family. 

You will also learn more about Academic Orientation Week, your faculty, how to register and choose modules, and many other aspects of life at UP.
