University of Pretoria for students are invited to participate in the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) South Africa 2022. This conference is held through YOUNGO, which is the Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Global Shapers Tshwane Hub has been endorsed as the official host of this conference in South Africa.

The Tshwane Hub has been endorsed by YOUNGO to host this session for South Africa and will be largely focused on the perspective of food security in relation to climate change. The main goal of our LCOY is to engage youth around activism, action, and advocacy in bringing awareness and knowledge about the effects of climate change on food systems; this is with a specific focus on the youth in under-serviced communities who are often most affected by climate change. Part of this is also to engage the youth in what happens in COP and how to start elevating youth voices in the UNFCCC processes and work around climate action.

The event will be held on 27 - 28 October (the 29th is an optional day) and participants under the age of 25 are encouraged to participate even though the conference is open to all.
