The University of Pretoria (UP) is set to host its annual #ChooseUP Day event virtually on Saturday, 10 September, from 08:45 to 13:00.

This future-focused event is aimed at introducing UP, its staff, campuses, faculties and student services to grade 12 learners who have received conditional admission offers subject to their matric/ school-leaving results.

The event will consist of two main parts; during the first hour (09:00 to 10:00), all attendees will be welcomed by UP Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Tawana Kupe before cross-over introductions to three of the biggest aspects of life at UP: the cultural activities on offer to students, residence life, and TuksSport and UP’s sport campus. UP Student Representative Council (SRC) President Thuto Mashile will discuss student support and student structures on campus. This will be followed by a presentation about UP’s world-class teaching and learning facilities and lecturers.

From 10:00 to 13:00 attendees will be able to join any of the nine live-streamed faculty information sessions that will dive deeper into UP’s nine faculties. The various faculty deans will welcome learners, followed by student presentations and other details about the faculty. Each faculty information session will also include a live question-and-answer session with members of the faculty. During these sessions learners and parents/ guardians will also be able to tour the faculty/ campus via UP’s Virtual Campus platform. The platform is made up of more than 120 panoramas of UP’s campuses. Attendees can watch videos containing all the information they might need about a particular faculty and its programmes. Learners can choose the faculty information session/s they’d like to attend by following the link contained in their RSVP confirmation email.

Learners who attend one of the virtual faculty information sessions on the day will also get opportunities to enter competitions to win a bursary or a UP prize hamper.

Attendees who responded to their emailed invitation and confirmed their attendance before 5 September 2022 will stand a chance of winning one of six study bursaries valued at R20 000 each, or one of five UP hampers during the event. Those who confirmed their attendance by 5 September should have received an email on 7 September with a link which will grant access to the virtual event. That link (and the one below) will only go live from 08:45 on Saturday, 10 September.

UP’s chatbot, Mothusi, will be online during the event to answer any questions the audience might have about studying at UP.
