First Friday Film Club is a monthly event to connect students in the Tshwane metropole with various filmmakers and industry insiders. Kopano Cowen, Head of Content at Connect.tv. Connect.tv opens the window into Africa and entertains viewers with great stories. 

Kopano has over a decade of experience in the television industry. As Executive Producer of Date My Family, Our Perfect Wedding, and Pastor Wants a Wife, Kopano has created niche content often billed as Sunday Night TV. Real stories of dating misadventures and adventures are shared across the country and the continent. People gather in-person and online to watch Date My Family and Our Perfect Wedding. The ratings and trending status on Twitter speak to the vastness of the audience. Everyone has opinions about the featured couples of the week. 

Over the last few years, television has become as important as the traditional film industry in creating space for modern-day narratives about our collective lived experiences. Many aspiring film students will have their start on television shows, and this allows them to understand. We will be watching a compilation of Kopano’s shows, and she will be discussing what it takes to create unscripted reality shows.
