The General Academic Regulations of the University of Pretoria (UP) form part of the Institutional Rules of the University and are approved by Senate. The General Academic Regulations provide the academic guidelines for undergraduate and postgraduate students, give clarity on various matters concerning academic matters and general student conduct, and are applicable to all faculties.
The General Student Rules cover the processes and procedures relevant to student life in general, including conduct, disciplinary matters, information on important policies, information on residences, access to campuses, security, traffic and parking regulations, etc.
The General Academic Regulations and General Student Rules were amended and approved in 2020 and 2021.
It is compulsory for all undergraduate and postgraduate students to acquaint themselves with these regulations and rules. It is of particular importance for students to be fully conversant with, amongst others, those regulations, and rules that have a bearing on:
Upon registration (online), links to the General Academic Regulations and General Student Rules will be made available. On confirming their registration for the new academic year, each student (undergraduate and postgraduate) must commit to these regulations and rules of the University, and by signing (completing) the registration form, students affirm that they are familiar with and will obey these regulations and rules.
