The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Tribes and kingdoms by JS Bergh and AP Bergh.
In Southern Africa the 19th century saw the rise and fall of the mighty Zulu empire and the breaking away of Shaka’s warrior Mzilikazi to forge his own powerful Ndebele (Matabele) nation in the interior. A wise chief named Moshweshwe built a new Basotho nation with diplomacy and courage, while in the south the Xhosa speaking tribes who had been the first to come face to face with the Dutch and the British struggled to keep their independence.
