UP Anti-Discrimination and Social Justice week 27 September to 1 October 2021

Posted on September 28, 2021

The Constitution of South Africa guarantees the right to equality and also gives protection to all from unfair discrimination. The University of Pretoria’s Transformation goal is to be genuinely transformed, demonstrating an inclusive and non-discriminatory culture for all its employees, students, and stakeholders.

Through our transformation initiatives, we have prioritised key focus areas such as creating a learning and working environment free of discrimination and harassment as well as a socially relevant, economically impactful curriculum, which demonstrates our transformation journey of inclusivity and diversity.

We are passionate about the creation of healthy teaching and learning as well as working environment within the institution which is why we have themed this year’s Anti-discrimination week: “Co-creating inclusive, affirming and respectful spaces for all.” Staff and students must be treated with respect irrespective of their race, faith, gender and disability. As a University, we want to be recognised internationally for our academic excellence and for developing people, creating knowledge and making a difference locally and globally. That is only possible through our collaborative effort as we continue to live The UP Way!

The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, the Transformation Office, and the Faculties and departments will facilitate this year’s Anti-discrimination and social justice week.

A comprehensive plan of all Anti-discrimination dialogues and activities which will take place during this week will be shared via the Department of Institutional Advancement’s campus-wide communications.
