The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

Journal of a visit to South Africa, in 1815, and 1816 : with some account of the missionary settlements of the United Brethren, near the Cape of Good Hope by Christian Ignatius Latrobe.

Christian Ignatius Latrobe (1758 – 1836) was a Moravian missionary from England, who arrived in the Cape Colony in 1815 to visit the Moravian mission stations in the area. His journal of the trip was published in 1818 with coloured plates of sketches by Latrobe himself and by John Melville, Government Surveyor of the Cape, who accompanied him on his journey.
