The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
A guide to the Aloes of South Africa by Ben-Erik Van Wyk and Gideon Smith.
Aloes form a conspicuous part of the South African landscape and many appreciate their striking beauty. This book is a user-friendly field guide to all South African aloes. Short descriptions and clear photographs of all 125 species occurring within the boundaries of South Africa have been included, showing the plants in habitat and most of their distinguishing characteristics. In this regard it is aimed at as wide an audience as possible.
This book is available at Special Collections, housed on level 5 of the Merensky 2 Library, and is part of our Africana (ZA) Collection.
The Special Collections unit of the Department of Library Services plays a stewardship role in the acquisition and preservation of the Library's rare and valuable information resources, making them accessible to students, staff and researchers, as well as safeguarding them for future generations.
