The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
The Bird Guide of Southern Africa by Ulrich Oberprieler and Burger Cillie.
Birding is one of the most rapidly expanding outdoor activities both worldwide and in Southern Africa, and became particularly popular over Lockdown as people were confined to their own homes and gardens. The most basic challenge for beginners and serious birders is to confidently identify the birds they see in the field. For this, a bird guide that is accurate yet simple to use is an essential tool. The Bird Guide of Southern Africa has succinct text, which together with distribution maps and excellent photographs to illustrate the different forms of birds, provides accurate information on the identification of each species.
