October is Cybersecurity Month

Posted on October 12, 2020

Dear UP staff and students

Cybercriminals have increased their attacks during this unusual time. They are taking advantage of the fact that more people are working and studying from home, where security measures may be less strict than in the office and campus environments. Therefore, it is important that all of us continue to be aware of security threats and keep on applying practices that protect the University and ourselves against cybercriminal activities.

Please take a virtual tour of the IT Services’ recently launched ‘Information and Cybersecurity’ pages on the UP web at https://www.up.ac.za/itsecurity. On the ‘Campaign Roadmap’ page, drive to the first and second stops.

The first stop, released in June, introduces the digital neighbourhood, with four articles highlighting guidelines for safeguarding your online activities when accessing the Internet for work or private purposes. The second stop brings you to the new release for October, ‘Do your part – be cyber smart’, where we provide advice on how to protect yourself against cyberattacks. Follow the links to see and read more, and be willing to take extra steps to do more.

Complete your tour by visiting the ‘Contact us’ page to provide feedback and suggestions.
