Post- doctoral Fellowships for 2020/2021

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Pretoria is one of the oldest and most respected Humanities faculties in South Africa. Established more than 100 years ago, the Faculty of Humanities has a long tradition of research across a wide range of disciplines covering the languages, arts, and the social sciences. In partnership with the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), the faculty invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships to promote research of the highest standard and quality.

 

The following conditions apply:

 

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must have a PhD in the Humanities and Social Sciences obtained within the last 5 years by the application deadline.
  • Applicants should not be registered for study towards any degree at the time of assuming the fellowship.
  • Fellowships must be taken up in the second half of 2020.
  • Fellows will be required to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Pretoria and the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS).
  • Fellows will be required to comply with the University of Pretoria and NIHSS approved policies, procedures and practices for the postdoctoral sector.

 

Benefits

There are no fringe benefits. The successful candidate is responsible for his or her own medical aid and insurance arrangements.

 

Value: R400, 000 per award. The fellowship is tenable for one academic year.

A review committee comprising members of the Faculty of Humanities and NIHSS will select successful applications.

 

The University of Pretoria and NIHSS reserve the right to disqualify ineligible, incomplete and/or inappropriate applications.  This may include adjusting the conditions of award and/or revoking the awards.
