The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Discover Pretoria by Heinie Heydenrych and Abrie Swiegers.
Over the past hundred and fifty years, Pretoria has grown among beautiful hills and valleys to a mature city, worthy of its status as administrative capital of South Africa. Unlike Johannesburg and towns such as Cullinan and those on the Rand, no major economic discovery boosted the development of Pretoria. Yet the city has succeeded to interest and charm both citizens and visitors throughout her history. The highest educational standards are maintained as is proved by the fact that the two largest universities in the country – those of South Africa and Pretoria – are firmly established. Popularly nicknamed Jacaranda City, Pretoria pulls her weight in all aspects. With her interesting features and fascinating history, this city has much to offer the visitor.
