Psychology in the built environment was brought to the forefront in the first-ever Psycon Workshop held in South Africa.  Dr Ezekiel Chinyio and Dr Abigain Taiwo from the University of Wolverhampton (UK) took hands with Dr Michelle Burger from the University of Pretoria's Department of Construction Economics (Real Estate) in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, and Prof Erhabor Idemudia (University of North West) in applying for the Global Challenges Research Fund (UK).  They aimed to use the funding, if awarded, to disseminate Psychology in the Built Environment multi-disciplinary knowledge in South Africa.  The funding was received, resulting in a Psycon workshop in South Africa becoming a reality. 

Participants from either the Built Environment or Psychology attended the workshop.  The morning session focussed on academics investigating the importance and need for integration between the two disciplines in syllabi.  The afternoon session was attended by practitioners who looked at the importance of integrating psychology within practice in the built environment.  The workshop was applauded with participants indicating that they had learnt a lot, would like to know more about the integration of the two disciplines and hope that in future such an event may once again take place.
