The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Our Madiba – Stories and reflections from those who met Nelson Mandela compiled by Melanie Verwoerd.
The African National Congress (ANC) is the oldest and most durable of African nationalist movements, not only in South Africa but also across the continent. Since 1994, it governed the country as leader of the Tripartite Alliance with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and South African Communist Party (SACP). Behind the glamour of leaders lies the fact that working people of one form or another comprise the overwhelming majority of the ANC’s constituency. Explaining the roots of this Alliance is important.
