Posted on June 20, 2019

Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP) recently held a certificate ceremony at the CSIR International Convention Centre to recognise those who have successfully completed their training programmes and short courses for the 2018/2019 season.

The University of Pretoria’s (UP) Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) and Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) honoured delegates who completed programmes such as the Programme in Project Management, Programme in Engineering Management, Senior Management Programme and the Management Development Programme.

These leadership and development programmes make a direct contribution to the development and growth of business leaders. The programmes are run part-time over the course of a year, teaching functional management and transformational leadership.

Professor Elma van der Lingen, HOD of the Graduate School of Technology Management, opened the ceremony, while Dr George Maluleke, General Manager of Projects at Anglo American, delivered the keynote speech. A mining professional and an accomplished scholar, Dr Maluleke understands the dedication required to complete such challenging programmes.

“You did it!” he saluted the class of 2018/2019. “Of the 27.6 per cent of South Africans that are unemployed today, almost 90 per cent have not had the opportunity to be honoured like you [have been] today. That drives the message that education is a missing ingredient among our youth – if it was not for education, you would not be where you are today.”

In reference to the course leaders and lecturers, Dr Maluleke said: “Today, this great team of academics is going to provide you with something different. I want you to think about what you are going to do with that, not only to address your individual economic success but to make a difference in our country.”

The Programme in Project Management (PPM) is one of the most sought-after industry certifications available today. It has been developing practical project managers for the past 23 years, and is presented by various subject specialists and thought leaders that teach Africa’s only master’s degree programme accredited by the Global Accreditation Centre of the Project Management Institute (PMI). This unique training experience provides you with up-to-date methods to excel, enriched by our two decades of excellence in skills development.

The Management Development Programme develops managers’ skills at middle-management level to perform their management responsibilities in a more effective and efficient manner within a changing and competitive business environment. Throughout this programme, you will acquire the competencies needed to deal with various contemporary South African management challenges while focusing on functional and cross-functional business processes.
