Music in 4.0: EBIT Faculty Dean’s Concert celebrates dreams and opportunities embedded in 4IR

Posted on May 27, 2019

The University of Pretoria’s (UP’s) Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) recently held its annual Dean’s Concert. This year’s concert celebrated the dreams and opportunities the different industrial revolutions have brought about, as well as the hope Africa embodies as the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) reveals itself.

The EBIT Dean’s Concert has been a highlight on the Faculty’s calendar for thirteen years. Since 2006, the University of Pretoria’s Symphony Orchestra has produced musical magic for EBIT every year. Earlier in May, under the leadership of conductor Gerben Grooten, this magic happened again. A programme tailor-made for EBIT lead the audience in a celebration of hope. EBIT prides itself on embracing the 4IR to foster advancements with the potential to change the world for the better.

The University of Pretoria’s Symphony Orchestra was inspiring

The sounds of the orchestra inspired the audience to seize the multitude of opportunities offered by this new chapter in the story of our world, and encouraged them to dream with their eyes wide open. The social act of communicating through music makes it possible to dream about the opportunities the 4IR presents to build the Africa that so many dream of.
