Posted on May 06, 2019

The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

To the Brink: the state of democracy in South Africa by Xolela Mangcu.

In To the Brink (published in 2008), Mangcu turns his focus to the state of South Africa’s evolving democracy at that time. From policy controversies surrounding HIV/AIDS, Zimbabwe, corruption, no relevant issues escape his analysis of the racial insider / outsider dynamic that evolved under Thabo Mbeki’s rule. He discusses how black and white people could build a joint culture.
